Lachenalia viridiflora is one of the most distinctive and sought-after Lachenalia species, renowned for its true green flowers—a rarity among flowering bulbs. Native to the Western Cape of South Africa, this winter-growing geophyte is highly prized by collectors for its unusual coloration and elegant growth habit.

The plant produces 1–2 strap-shaped to slightly spreading leaves, often attractively marked with maroon or purple spotting near the base. In winter, a sturdy flower spike emerges, carrying multiple vivid emerald to turquoise-green tubular flowers, which can last for several weeks under cool conditions. The striking flower color makes this species a standout in any bulb collection.

After flowering in late winter to early spring, the foliage gradually dies back and the bulb enters full summer dormancy.
